TECH IT OUT Pearland

Robotics Engineering & Programming Exploration
For Kids and Teens (7-14)

Houston Community College - South
1990 Airport (288 and Airport)
Houston Texas 77051

TECH IT OUT Robotics is a high tech summer robotics camp offered in the Pearland area where kids and teens learn to build, program and compete with robot of their own design in small teams. While having fun youth are engaged in teamwork, as well as computer programming, problem solving using math, robot engineering, design concepts, and critical thinking.

4 - Day Camp
Monday - Thursday
9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Extended Day
Monday - Thursday
8:00 am - 4:00 pm

Featuring Acclaimed LEGO Education Robotics Continuum

LEGO® WeDo Robotics™ Camps for (ages 7-8)

TECH IT OUT- Robotics “I-Stories” or “Interactive Stories” is a hands-on minds on learning experience that enhances students’ reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills through project-based learning and STEM Literacy. STEM literacy relates to a learner’s ability to understand and apply concepts from science, technology, engineering  and mathematics to solve problems.

Campers will use LEGO WeDo to constructing their own stories with over 20 main characters models featuring working motors and sensors to choose from; code their models; and explore a series of cross-curricular, theme-based activities that develop their literacy skills of reading, writing, designing, speaking and listening. TECH IT OUT- “I-Stories culminated in a high tech share fair where students set up a display of their models and present their computer animated interactive stories to their learning community and families.

LEGO® WeDo Robotics™ Camps for (ages 7-9)

TECH IT OUT- Robotics “WeDo Math and Science Camp” Activities are divided into four project-based learning themes – Organisms and Environments| Force, Motion and Energy |Sports and Engineering | History of Flight

Working in small teams, campers understand how scientific investigation and reasoning allows them to use critical thinking and problem solving to make informed decisions and draw conclusions by designing models that represents how something works or looks that cannot be seen. TECH IT OUT- “WeDo Science Camp” culminated in a high tech share fair where students set up a display of their models and present their computer animated conclusion from science experiments to their learning community and families.

LEGO® MINDSTORMS Camps for (ages 10 -13)

SKILLS BASED EDUCATIONAL ROBOTICS | ROBOTICS TEAM DEVELOPMENT

Campers will be able to:

• Define what a robot is in their own words
• Identify LEGO parts by proper name, category and functionality
• CONSTRUCT robots using LEGO instructions and own unique arm designs
• Program using unplugged EV3 Brick programming
• CODE using NXT-G or EV3-G to make the robot go forward, reverse, and make various turns
• Use proportional math to improve robot precision like stopping at a given distance
• Use engineering process to plan and solve a problem using math
• COMPETE in small teams with a robot of their own design in FINALE Challenge

FINALE CHALLENGE GAME OPTIONS FOR SUMMER 2015- ** Depends on location

"EV3 Space Challenge" is a theme-based camp where learners are introduced to the exciting world of robotics through building and programming the NEW LEGO EV3 robots. Learners work together to solve realistic problems through missions that simulate problems NASA Engineers are currently work on.

2015 4H AgriBotics Robotics Challenge “Fix MyPlate” is an interactive challenge that illustrates the five food groups that are the building blocks for a healthy diet using a familiar concept of—a place setting for a meal. “Fix MyPlate” Robotics Challenge highlights the stages in the production and distribution needed to grow a strong local food system and teaches where food comes from and how it is grown. Students design, construct and code autonomous robotic residents known as Farm Bots that navigate through “Harvest Town” helping the urban and rural farmers.

FIRST TECH CHALLENGE Robot C Battle Camp for (ages 12 - 14)

ROBOTC BATTLE BOTS is a camp that aims to combines the constructing of LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT with TETRIX and VEX Cortex with the coding power of ROBOTC. Battle Bots give teens an opportunity to take their learning to next level through hands-on, minds-on robotics laboratory experience.

Campers will model real-life mechanisms and use creativity, logic, and problem-solving skills to meet challenges with today’s technologies all while learning necessary science, technology, engineering, and math concepts. Campers learn how to write robotics code to autonomously control TETRIX Robots or VEX Cortex robots using ROBOTC operating system that allow the robot to perform several tasks independently and the fundamentals of motor movements using C-based programming and engineering designed appendages

Campers explore and make deep ‘connections’ with mathematical and scientific concepts that underlie the activities such as measurement concepts (distance, time, and temperature) and geometry concepts (angles, rotation, radius, and circumference).

Blue Sky Thinking: Adventures into Aerospace Engineering Camp (Ages 10- 14)

Blue Sky Thinking- How much technology is too much technology for children? Some believe that kids should be interacting with people instead of computer screens because there are important social skills that are only learned through person to person interaction. Other believe that knowledge of technology is essential to survival in this high tech age. TECH IT OUT believe that both are essential to well-rounded future scientist, technologist, engineer and mathematician. Being able to write a sentences with a pencil is just as important as being able to upload an assignment to your teachers website.

TECH IT OUT - Blue Sky Thinking is a high tech- low tech adventure into aerospace.

Aerospace Engineering- Aircraft Design Challenge- Day 1 and Day 2 of camp, students explore how engineers have developed rockets over the years, using simple technology they will construct models a variety of flying aircraft such as gliders, hot air balloons, and pop rockets. Campers will work in small teams to build and launch a water bottle rocket, consider the forces on a rocket, Newton's Laws, and other principles and challenges of actual space vehicle launch. FINALE: TECH IT OUT-H2O Blast Challenge.

Piloting Helicopters and Robotics Drones- Day 3 and 4 of camp will focus on increasing camper’s awareness of new technologies in aerospace and robotics and how things work. LOW TECH- campers will construct a rubber band helicopter, perform test of different fuselage form factors and record data on test. HIGH TECH- campers will perform test on the performance of an AR Drone Quad Copters with Robot Operating System. The culminating project is to work in small them to pilot UAV’s through our FINALE: TECH IT OUT- Aerial Obstacle Course.
